What makes us Special?
The word "ulan" in the Turkic Tatar language means a brave warrior or young man. Uhlans (/ ’u:la: n, ’ju: e n/; Polish: Ułan; Germany: Ulan) were Polish light cavalry armed with lances, sabres and pistols. They became the model for many cavalry units in Europe in the early 19th century.
They were known for their lances, sabres and short firearms. Until the end of First World War, an army of soldiers was called uhlans (ułani). Their speed and mobility were the key to their popularity.
Our grandfather finishes military school and becomes a member of Uhlan (ułan army). Our grandmother’s family surname is “Ułanowska”.
